Kari Lien (she/they)
is a senior double majoring in creative writing and communication studies. A Bay Area native, Kari is drawn to writing that focuses on character relationships, grief, and girlhood. When they’re not writing, they’re consuming a concerning amount of film, tv, or music. Don’t ask, or you’ll never hear the end of it.

is a senior screenwriting major from Charlottesville, Virginia. She loves reading and writing reflective, character-focused stories. Outside of writing, she enjoys making friendship bracelets, journaling, skiing, and spending time outside.

Luciana Paventy (she/her)
is a junior who appreciates fellow over-thinkers, all things creative writing, and clouds. She fangirls over Ellen Bass, Brian Doyle, and Jamila Lyiscott who inspire her to continue her overthinking, but turn it into poetry.

Emma Raanan (she/her)
is a senior public relations and advertising major with a minor in women's and gender studies. She enjoys watching silly tv shows, trying out various arts and crafts, and listening to Taylor Swift (among other favorite artists). She is very excited to be joining Calliope!

is a dedicated Graphic Design major from Seattle. She loves to draw (especially with colored pencils), swim, scrapbook, and create unnecessarily elaborate gifts in the makerspace for her friends.

Sam Batt (he/him)
is a fourth-year creative writing major and philosophy minor. He deals mostly in poetry and creative fiction, infrequently dabbling in nonfiction ventures. Outside of writing, he spends his time playing music, watching strange horror movies, or desperately searching for the album Run for the Roses by Jerry Garcia on vinyl. Sam is incredibly excited to be a part of the Calliope team and engage with Chapman's creative community.

is a senior studying English literature, Africana studies, and ethnic studies at Chapman. She’s a Pinay immigrant, daughter, and storyteller negotiating love, healing, belonging, and community after migratory shifts.

is a junior from the Bay Area. He dreamed of being an author in elementary school and is now looking to actualize that dream. Tyler is eager to explore as many forms of storytelling as he can get his hands on. is a writer from Compton, California with a love for connecting people and their stories. Outside of writing, Emely likes singing, playing games with friends, watching tv, and cooking with her mamá. Emely’s latest writings has featured her experiences in reconnecting to her family's heritage in El Salvador and understanding the Latino experience in the United States.

is a sophomore creative writing major from Boston, Massachusetts. He loves writing short fiction and poetry, and can be found around campus rambling on about old Cartoon Network shows. When he's not writing, Josh loves playing basketball, watching anime, and rooting hard for Boston sports. Go Celtics!

Anisa Abdulkariem (she/her)
is a dedicated Graphic Design major with a minor in Creative Cultural Industries. She was born and raised in San Francisco and is the eldest of her four siblings. Beyond her academic pursuits, Anisa finds fulfillment in various interests, including a passion for soccer, visits to Disneyland, and an appreciation for Formula 1 racing.

is a freshman Graphic Design major from the great state of Oklahoma. She likes card games, playing piano, folding her laundry, and climbing mountains. She’s been to 25 countries. Her latest obsession is Vonnegut, so it goes.

is a junior Studio Art Major, with double minors in Graphic Design and Production Design for Film. Her work has been featured in a variety of shows, from the local Guggenheim Gallery to New York City’s La Mama Galleria. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and obsessing over her next art project.
